Required Qualifications:
The Certified Tumor Registrar is
responsible assuring that the SBMC Cancer Program
operates in compliance with the regulatory
guidelines of the American College of
Surgeons/Commission on Cancer, New Jersey State
Cancer Registry, National Accreditation Program for
Breast Centers, American Society of Clinical
Oncology’s Quality Oncology Program Initiative, and
other SBMC program initiatives. Certified Tumor
Registrar, High School graduate, Associates
preferred. Experience: 1-5 years experience in
cancer registry abstracting. Strong knowledge of
medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-O
coding, SEER Stage Coding, AJCC TNM Staging, FORDS
Manual and Collaborate Staging. Prior inpatient and
outpatient coding experience using ICD-9-CM and
CPT-4 preferred. Completion of all Orientation
requirements of Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Temporary Cancer Registry Abstractor

Introduction:
The Regional Cancer Center (RCC)
located in Erie, Pennsylvania has been bringing
expert cancer care close to home for patients in the
northwestern Pennsylvania region since 1987 and is
affiliated with UPMC Cancer Centers, one of the
largest integrated community networks of cancer
physicians and health care specialists in the
country.
Job Description:
The Cancer Registry Abstractor is
responsible for the technical operation of the
Cancer Registry including initial data collection,
follow-up information and maintenance of cancer data
files in accordance with the Facility Oncology
Registry Data Standards (FORDS) of the American
College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer and the
Pennsylvania Cancer Registry.
This is a temporary position lasting
approximately six to nine months. Candidates will be
able to work remotely, other than brief availability
to initially train onsite; relocation is not
required for this position.
Required Qualifications:

High School graduate or the
equivalent
-
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
required
-
Three years experience in a
medical setting with demonstrated knowledge and
expertise in medical terminology, anatomy, and
physiology is recommended
-
Experience in medical record
coding is desirable
-
Knowledge and experience in
computerized data entry
-
Must pay strict attention to
detail and be able to switch from one activity
to another without notice and with a minimum of
disruption

position available for a Director of the Cancer
Registry to provide overall leadership for
operations of the Cancer Registry and be responsible
for developing and implementing operational policies
and procedures that ensure compliance with both PACR
and ACOS data standards and reporting requirements.
Specific duties include:

Working closely with Disease
site teams to ensure data collected meets needs
of continually evolving treatment practices

Assessing workflow and
procedures and recommending improvements to
facilitate data flow into the registry

Preparing and submitting data
regarding registry and facility activities for
FIPS and ACOS accreditation surveys
Required Qualifications:

Requires a BS in Health Records
Administration, BSN or Health Administration

Certified Tumor Registrar
credential
-
Extensive knowledge of IDC-O
nomenclatures as well as PCR & ACOS
requirements
-
5 years experience with
computerized tumor registry program, Microsoft
Office applications
-
Previous Supervisory experience
preferred
