Job Description:

Required Qualifications: 

Qualifications include:

  • CTR Certification
  • Exceptional Written and Verbal Communication Skills
  • The ability to work independently with attention to detail
  • A Minimum of 3 years Registry Experience in Case Finding, Abstracting, Follow-up, QA, Survey and NCDB Data Edit Corrections and Submission
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in cancer program management in order to perform Operations Reviews, Interim Management, Survey preparation, and/or Mock Surveys
  • Knowledge of Multiple Abstracting Systems preferred; Strong Computer and Microsoft Office Skills

Tumor Registrar I
Altoona Regional Health System

Introduction: 

Maintains an institution-wide Cancer Program as required by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and the Pennsylvania Department of Health and assists in routine office procedures.

Job Description: 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the components of the cancer data collection system.

  • Handles the day-to-day operation of the registry.

  • Does case finding and abstracts medical records, enters and transmits data into the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer data base.

  • Serves as Secretary to Tumor Board.

  • Serves as Secretary to the Cancer Program Multi-Disciplinary Cancer Committee.

  • Answers the phone and provides medical information when needed.

Required Qualifications: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate. Must be familiar with computer and efficiency in keyboard operation is required.

  • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology and anatomy/Physiology course required.

  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as a Tumor Registrar. Coding/Abstract experience desired.

  • Must be able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute as well as be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Must be certified by the National Cancer Registrars (CTR) Association (if currently certified as CTR, educational requirements below are not mandatory).

  • Must be eligible to successfully complete certification examination for National Cancer Registrars (CTR) Association within 2 years of employment and maintain for the length of employment in this position.

  • You must currently meet the National Cancer Registrar educational requirements of Associate Degree or equivalent of four-semesters/six-quarters in related allied health field such as medical assistant that includes two semesters of Anatomy/Physiology; must also include medical terminology.
